- The Environment Policy Division within DAERA has policy responsibility for mercury contaminated land in Northern Ireland. Regulation (EU) 2017/852 on mercury, to which Northern Ireland remains aligned post EU Transition through the Northern Ireland Protocol, seeks to restrict the anthropogenic release of mercury to the environment and requires Member States to identify and assess sites contaminated by mercury and mercury compounds and address the significant risks such contamination may pose to human health and the environment. The Client wishes to appoint a Contractor to undertake this project to identify land in Northern Ireland potentially contaminated by mercury due to historic practices and industry.
