Description:
Derry City and Strabane District Council is seeking to deliver a number of interventions in Derry city centre in order to address the many challenges and negative impacts arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Key challenges include low levels of footfall in town/city centres and businesses needing to quickly adapt to new Covid social distancing requirements. Council, working in conjunction with a range of statutory and business stakeholders, has identified measures which it considers will contribute to promoting vitality in the city centre through targeted physical streetscape/public realm enhancement measures. One of these measures will consist of creating three distinct landscaped spaces at Queen’s Quay, Police Court Street and Waterloo Place. These spaces will enable people to sit, rest, eat and drink in a congenial atmosphere. The spaces will provide out door spillover accommodation for surrounding businesses, particularly cafes, coffee shops and the like. The spaces will be built off existing hard landscaped surfaces and incorporate synthetic grass carpeting, timber decking, planters, seating and dining street furniture. The spaces will be finished with a boundary hedge treatment around their perimeter. The sheltered spaces will be created at each site using large commercial free-standing umbrella structures. The Contractor will provide for the detailed design of some elements of the works, construction, completion, and testing of the works to meet the contract specifications and declared objectives. The Contractor will take all reasonable skill, care and diligence in providing the detailed working designs. The Contractor will ensure that the constructed works are fit for purpose and will meet with all the conditions and requirements of the contract. While the Contract Information will provide details of the various components of these spaces, responsibility for the detailed design, the coordination and assembly of these components will rest with the Principal Contractor and their chosen range of suppliers for these components. The appointed Principal Contractor will be expected to provide general arrangement, fabrication and working details drawings for the final full coordinated design of the specified elements of the works.
